Target Background

Function
AGL62 is a probable transcription factor crucial for regulating early endosperm development. It suppresses cellularization and promotes nuclear proliferation during this stage. Its expression is suppressed by the FERTILIZATION-INDEPENDENT SEED (FIS) polycomb complex at the end of the syncytial phase, preventing premature cellularization.
Gene References Into Functions
The role of AGL62 in endosperm development is supported by the following findings:
  1. AGL62 is a direct target of the FIS Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2). This interaction provides a molecular mechanism for FIS PRC2-mediated endosperm cellularization. PMID: 22535409
  2. AGL62 suppresses cellularization during the syncytial phase. Endosperm cellularization is initiated by the direct or indirect inactivation of AGL62 by the FIS polycomb complex. PMID: 18334668
