Target Background

Function
CDON is a component of a cell-surface receptor complex that mediates cell-cell interactions between muscle precursor cells. It plays a crucial role in promoting the differentiation of myogenic cells.
Gene References Into Functions
  1. A novel heterozygous nonsense CDON mutation was identified in a case of Pituitary Stalk Interruption Syndrome, presenting with neonatal hypoglycemia and cholestasis. PMID: 26529631
  2. CDON is essential for the proliferation and survival of lung cancer cells through the Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway. PMID: 25369201
  3. Research suggests that CDON acts as a tumor suppressor in neuroblastomas, and its expression is tightly regulated by microRNAs. PMID: 25313246
  4. A single-nucleotide polymorphism in CDON has been associated with biochemical recurrence in prostate cancer. PMID: 24740842
  5. Mutations in the CDON gene are known to cause holoprosencephaly. (Review) PMID: 22326621
  6. CDON has been found to be overexpressed in prostate cancer. PMID: 21849809
  7. For effective signaling, CDON must associate with both ligands and other hedgehog-receptor components, particularly PTCH1. Disruptions in these interactions can lead to holoprosencephaly. PMID: 21802063
  8. Hedgehog proteins interact with CDON and its homolog, BOC (Brother of CDO), in a conserved manner. PMID: 20519495
  9. CDON and BOC are involved in the differentiation of cells in the skeletal muscle lineage. PMID: 12720294
  10. CDON and BOC form complexes with specific cadherins, mediating some of the promyogenic effects of cell-cell contact. PMID: 12634428
  11. Targeted inactivation of Cdon in mice results in mild holoprosencephaly, suggesting its involvement in signaling pathways, such as the Sonic hedgehog pathway, that control midline development. PMID: 12620190
