Function
CED-7 antibody functions in the engulfment of cell corpses during embryonic programmed cell death. It facilitates the translocation of molecules mediating homotypic adhesion between the surfaces of dying and engulfing cells.
Gene References Into Functions
- Research indicates the existence of a WLDS/Nmnat-independent axonal degeneration pathway in C. elegans. This pathway demonstrates the conservation of the axonal clearance machinery, with CED-7 and NRF-5 playing significant roles in this process. PMID: 26876181
- CED-7 and TTR-52 facilitate the efflux of phosphatidylserine (PS) from apoptotic cells through the generation of extracellular PS vesicles. These vesicles promote exoplasmic leaflet (exPS) expression on phagocytes via TTR-52 and CED-1, ultimately facilitating cell corpse clearance. PMID: 22727702
- CED-7, a key player in engulfment, operates through an unusual mechanism, acting as a lipid transporter. Its absence results in phenotypic consequences exclusively on engulfment. PMID: 16471259
Protein Families
ABC transporter superfamily, ABCA family
Subcellular Location
Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Tissue Specificity
Ubiquitous in embryos. Expressed in larval germline precursors. Expression in larvae and adults is seen in amphid sheath cells, pharyngeal-intestinal valve and phasmid sheath cells. Low levels of expression are also seen in gonadal sheath cells.
