Function
CNOT2 is a component of the CCR4-NOT complex, a key cellular mRNA deadenylase involved in various cellular processes. These processes include bulk mRNA degradation, miRNA-mediated repression, translational repression during initiation, and general transcription regulation. Its impact on mRNA expression contributes to the complex's diverse functions. CNOT2 is crucial for the CCR4-NOT complex's structural integrity and can repress transcription. It potentially links the complex to transcriptional regulation, possibly through the N-Cor repressor complex containing HDAC3, NCOR1, and NCOR2. CNOT2 plays a role in maintaining embryonic stem (ES) cell identity.
