Function
FHY1 is a flavin mononucleotide (FMN) hydrolase. Its primary function is the dephosphorylation of FMN to riboflavin. It also exhibits dephosphorylation activity against 5-amino-6-(5-phospho-D-ribitylamino)uracil (ARPP). While not essential for plant riboflavin biosynthesis, FHY1 likely contributes to maintaining flavin homeostasis within chloroplasts.
