Target Background

Function

This antibody targets GA20-oxidase 1 (GA20ox1), a key enzyme in gibberellin biosynthesis. GA20ox1 catalyzes the three-step oxidation at C-20 of the gibberellin skeleton, converting GA12 and GA53 to GA9 and GA20, respectively. While GA12 is effectively oxidized, GA53 is less so, with GA25 produced as a minor byproduct. GA20ox1 contributes to floral transition, fertility, and silique elongation, although its role in seedling organ elongation is less significant. It functions redundantly with GA20ox2.

GA20ox1 Function and Regulation: Evidence from the Literature

  1. GA20ox1 expression significantly impacts gibberellin responses. PMID: 27879393
  2. Increased GA20ox1 expression may lead to elevated cytokinin activity through a KNOX-mediated transcriptional feedback loop, resulting in increased expression of GA catabolism genes (GA2oxs) and reduced GA1 and GA3 accumulation. PMID: 27764111
  3. Overexpression of GA20-OX1 resulted in increased vegetative biomass in greenhouse studies. PMID: 26903034
  4. Mutations in early GA biosynthesis steps, including the GA5 locus (encoding GA20ox1), resulted in reduced shoot and root size, with GA5 mutations specifically showing decreased root length compared to wild-type controls. PMID: 26162399
  5. A loss-of-function mutation in GA20-oxidase1 (GA5), caused by a single nucleotide deletion, has been identified as a cause of dwarfism in an alpine accession. PMID: 25941313
  6. Antagonistic pleiotropy may explain the prevalence of GA5 loss-of-function mutations in natural populations. PMID: 24023067
  7. Loss-of-function mutations in GA20ox1, -2, and -3 inhibit germination, cause severe dwarfism, delay flowering, and result in male and female sterility. PMID: 22427334
  8. The GA5 gene encodes a GA 20-oxidase that catalyzes the formation of GA20 and GA9. PMID: 21103336
  9. AtGA20ox1 and AtGA20ox2 exhibit functional redundancy in promoting hypocotyl and internode elongation, flowering time, anther filament elongation, seed number per silique, and silique elongation. PMID: 18069939
  10. GA20ox1 expression is subject to multi-level regulation. PMID: 18440929
