Target Background

Function
GAMMACA2 is an enzyme involved in the catabolism of H(2)CO(3), but it does not mediate the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. It plays a critical role in mediating complex I assembly in mitochondria and respiration. GAMMACA2 binds to HCO(3)- and is essential for male fertility during anther development and dehiscence. Its function is to regulate the secondary thickenings of the endothecial cell wall, likely through modulating H(2)O(2)-dependent lignin polymerization.
