Target Background

Function
This antibody targets LORELEI (LRE), a female gametophyte-specific protein crucial for the signaling pathway mediating fertilization. LRE is essential for pollen tube reception by the female gametophyte, specifically acting at the synergid cell surface. Its role extends to double fertilization and early seed development. LRE is a component of the FER-regulated Rho GTPase signaling complex, functioning as a chaperone and coreceptor for FER, and is required for the proper plasma membrane localization of FER.
Gene References Into Functions
  • LRE is a rarely expressed imprinted gene with immediate post-double fertilization function. Studies support a model where passage through the female gametophyte establishes monoallelic LRE expression in seeds, regulating early seed development. PMID: 28811333
  • Research details the germination, growth, and development of Arabidopsis seedlings deficient in LRE. PMID: 21051955
  • The lre-5 mutant disrupts female gametophyte function in pollen tube reception, impacting double fertilization and early seed development. PMID: 20163554
  • LORELEI mutations result in an invasive pollen tube phenotype and fertilization failure. PMID: 19028964
