Target Background

Function
Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) is an endocytic receptor involved in endocytosis and phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. It is essential for early embryonic development and plays a crucial role in cellular lipid homeostasis. LRP1 is involved in the plasma clearance of chylomicron remnants and activated LRPAP1 (alpha 2-macroglobulin), as well as the local metabolism of complexes between plasminogen activators and their endogenous inhibitors. It functions as an LRPAP1 alpha-2-macroglobulin receptor. LRP1 also acts as a TAU/MAPT receptor, controlling the endocytosis of TAU/MAPT and its subsequent spread. LRP1 may modulate cellular events, such as APP metabolism, kinase-dependent intracellular signaling, neuronal calcium signaling, and neurotransmission. It functions as a receptor for Pseudomonas aeruginosa exotoxin A.

The results presented in this study suggest that higher production of LRP1 protein may be associated with increased endocytosis of upregulated transporter proteins at the cell surface, leading to enhanced dox and emodin accumulation and growth inhibition.
