The Muscleblind-like (MBNL) proteins, in addition to their established roles in muscle function, also play a crucial role in neuronal development and synapse formation.[1] Further research has identified six isoforms of the K02H8.1 protein. One isoform demonstrated a strong binding affinity for CUG and CCUG repeats, comparable to that of MBNLs. Interestingly, while expression driven by the K02H8.1 promoter was absent in muscle tissue, it was detected in neurons surrounding the pharynx.[2]
