Target Background

Function
Histones H1 play a crucial role in the condensation of nucleosome chains into higher-order structures. Histone H1.0 is specifically found in cells that have reached terminal differentiation or exhibit low rates of cell division.
Gene References Into Functions
  1. H1.X exhibits faster mobility compared to other linker histones in vivo. Domain swapping experiments between H1.0 and H1.X indicate that both the globular domain (GD) and C-terminal domain (CTD) of H1.X contribute independently to the dynamic behavior of H1.X. PMID: 27528617
  2. Research suggests that dynamic epigenetic states regulated by the linker histone H1.0 determine which cells within a tumor can sustain long-term cancer growth. PMID: 27708074
  3. The N-terminal domain contributes to the differential chromatin binding affinity, whereas the C-terminal domain influences the distinct nucleosomal interface of isotypes H10 and H1c. PMID: 22334665
  4. Nuclear transport of H1 histones relies on a heterodimeric nuclear import receptor. PMID: 12080050
  5. H1(0) histone might be a significant factor in normal dendritic cell differentiation. Tumor-derived factors could potentially inhibit dendritic cell differentiation by influencing H1(0) expression. PMID: 12149419
