Target Background

Function
CBP20 is a component of the cap-binding complex (CBC), which binds co-transcriptionally to the 5' cap of pre-mRNAs. This complex plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, including pre-mRNA splicing and RNA-mediated gene silencing (RNAi) by microRNAs (miRNAs). The CBC complex is actively involved in miRNA-mediated RNA interference and is essential for primary miRNA processing. Within the CBC complex, CBP20 specifically recognizes and binds capped RNAs (m7GpppG-capped RNA). However, it requires ABH1/CBP80 for stabilization of its N-terminal loop, ensuring that the CBC is locked into a high-affinity cap-binding state with the cap structure. Notably, CBP20 also contributes to the stabilization of ABH1/CBP80 and facilitates its localization to the nucleus. Furthermore, CBP20 participates in flowering regulation through its interaction with FRIGIDA.
