NDUFA8 is an accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I). It is believed to play a role in electron transfer from NADH to the respiratory chain, although it is not thought to be directly involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. Ubiquinone is believed to be the immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme.
Gene References Into Functions
Intra-molecular disulfide bridges and inter-membrane space localization of three Cx(9)C-containing subunits in human: NDUFS5, NDUFB7 and NDUFA8, have been proposed. PMID: 21310150
This subunit of complex I is localized in the mitochondrial inter-membrane space. The protein contains intra-molecular disulfide bridges in the twin Cx(9)C motif. PMID: 21310150
