Function
OBE2 is a probable transcription factor that functions in conjunction with OBE1 to maintain and establish both the shoot and root meristems. This is likely achieved by regulating the expression of meristem genes such as *WUS*, *PLT1*, and *PLT2*, as well as genes involved in auxin responses. OBE2 promotes cell meristematic activity through the *WUSCHEL-CLAVATA* pathway. It plays a role in the development of the basal pole and in auxin-mediated root and vascular development during embryogenesis. OBE2 also confers sensitivity to turnip mosaic virus (TuMV), possibly by promoting viral movement and multiplication through interaction with TuMV VPg.
