Target Background

Function
PARN (Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease) is a 3'-exoribonuclease that exhibits a preference for poly(A) tails of messenger RNA (mRNA). Its primary function is the efficient degradation of these poly(A) tails, often serving as the initial step in the decay of eukaryotic mRNAs. PARN plays a crucial role in early development, potentially by participating in the translational silencing of specific maternal mRNAs. Furthermore, PARN may have a pivotal role in stress response mechanisms.
Gene References Into Functions
  1. AHG2 and AGS1 form a regulatory system that governs the poly(A) status of mitochondrial mRNA in Arabidopsis. PMID: 23912222
  2. A partial disruption of AHG2/PARN function disrupts mitochondrial activity independently, alongside its effects on abscisic acid and salicylic acid responses. PMID: 19892832
  3. AHG2 encodes a poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (AtPARN) that is believed to be involved in mRNA degradation. Both upregulation and downregulation of gene expression by AtPARN are crucial for proper ABA, salicylic acid, and stress responses. PMID: 16359390
