Function
PARN (Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease) is a 3'-exoribonuclease that exhibits a preference for poly(A) tails of messenger RNA (mRNA). Its primary function is the efficient degradation of these poly(A) tails, often serving as the initial step in the decay of eukaryotic mRNAs. PARN plays a crucial role in early development, potentially by participating in the translational silencing of specific maternal mRNAs. Furthermore, PARN may have a pivotal role in stress response mechanisms.
