Function
Tensin 1 (TENC1) is a tyrosine-protein phosphatase that plays a crucial role in regulating various cellular processes, including cell motility, proliferation, and muscle response to insulin. Under catabolic conditions, TENC1 dephosphorylates insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) in muscles, leading to its degradation and muscle atrophy. This dephosphorylation negatively regulates the activation of the PI3K-AKT pathway, a significant signaling pathway involved in cell growth and survival.
Tissue Specificity
Detected in heart, kidney, brain, thymus, spleen, liver, placenta, lung, skeletal muscle and small intestine.
