Target Background

Function
This antibody targets pid-1, a component of the pid-1 variant of the PETISCO complex. This complex plays a crucial role in the biogenesis of a specific class of 21 nucleotide PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) known as 21U-RNAs, characterized by a uracil residue at their 5'-end. Pid-1 acts as an adapter within the complex, binding to it via erh-2. It is involved in the biogenesis of 21U-RNAs, which in turn guide the piwi protein prg-1 to its DNA targets for silencing. This process contributes to small RNA-directed transgenerational epigenetic inheritance.
