Function
DNA-dependent RNA polymerase catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. It is a component of RNA polymerase II, which synthesizes mRNA precursors and various functional non-coding RNAs. Pol II constitutes the core of the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Its structure comprises mobile elements that undergo relative movements. RPB9, positioned within the upper jaw encircling the central large cleft, is believed to bind the incoming DNA template.
