Description

“[1,1’-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene]nickel(II) chloride” is an organometallic catalyst used in a variety of synthetic applications. It is related to other bridged diphosphines such as 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (dppe).

Synthesis Analysis

This compound can be synthesized by treating dilithioferrocene with chlorodiphenylphosphine. In a specific example, two new Ni(dppf)dithiolates were synthesized and characterized using microanalyses, FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Molecular Structure Analysis

The X-ray crystallographic studies indicate that in both compounds, the geometry around the Ni(II) center can be described as distorted square planar, which is defined by the two sulfur centers of the dinegative dithiolate ligands and two phosphorus centers of the neutral dppf ligand.

This compound is used in a variety of synthetic applications, such as the gem-difluoropropargylation of alkylzinc reagents, or cross-coupling reactions to form 2,3,5,6-tetrasubstituted dehydropiperidines.
