Presenilin 2 (PSEN2) is a probable catalytic subunit of the gamma-secretase complex. This complex is an endoprotease responsible for the intramembrane cleavage of integral membrane proteins, including Notch receptors.

- In zebrafish, pre2 exhibits maternal and ubiquitous expression during early embryonic development. However, Pre2 protein expression commences between 6 and 12 hours post fertilization (hpf), indicating a tightly regulated translation process. PMID: 12424519
- Research suggests that Psen2 plays a more prominent role in Notch signaling and embryonic development in zebrafish compared to mammals. Moreover, the reduction in Psen2 function can be partially compensated by loss of Psen1. PMID: 19563801
