Target Background

Function

PUF-5 is an RNA-binding protein that interacts with the consensus sequence 5'-CUCUGUAUCUUGU-3' within mRNA 3'-UTRs. This interaction plays a crucial role in regulating mRNA expression and stability. PUF-5 exhibits functional redundancy with puf-6 and puf-7 in processes such as oocyte formation and organization, early embryonic cell divisions, and the repression of glp-1 and other maternal mRNA transcripts during late oogenesis.

Gene References Into Functions
  1. The PUF domain protein PUF-5, along with two highly similar PUF proteins, PUF-6 and PUF-7, are involved in the repression of glp-1 and other maternal mRNAs during a specific stage of oocyte differentiation. PMID: 17234175
  2. PUF-5 and PUF-6 exhibit recognition of similar RNA sequences, distinct from those recognized by members of the FBF and PUF-8/-9 groups. PUF-5, PUF-6, and PUF-7 collectively regulate overlapping (or identical) sets of target mRNAs. PMID: 18579869
