Target Background

Function
PYL2 is a receptor for abscisic acid (ABA), playing a crucial role in ABA-mediated responses such as stomatal closure and germination inhibition. Upon activation by ABA, PYL2 inhibits the activity of group-A protein phosphatases type 2C (PP2Cs). Notably, both (-)-ABA and (+)-ABA can activate PYL2.
Gene References Into Functions
  1. Research indicates that the subfamily III of ABA receptors, including PYL2, plays a pivotal role in ABA-mediated developmental processes and, more importantly, contributes to drought tolerance through the ABA-dependent pathway. PMID: 30004422
  2. Deletion of the PYL2 gene alters the phosphorylation pattern of SnRK2 in response to abscisic acid signaling. PMID: 25693798
  3. A study has unveiled the structure of a SnRK2-PP2C complex, revealing a remarkable similarity in PP2C recognition by SnRK2 and ABA receptors. This structural data provides a straightforward mechanism directly linking ABA binding to SnRK2 kinase activation. PMID: 22116026
  4. Subtle variations in the binding pockets of PYR/PYL proteins, including PYL2, control ligand orientation within the pocket. This variation explains the effectiveness of pyrabactin as a receptor agonist. PMID: 20729860
