Target Background

Function
This antibody targets UPF3, a protein crucial for the nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) pathway. UPF3 plays a key role in recognizing and degrading mRNAs containing premature termination codons (PTCs), preventing the production of truncated and potentially harmful proteins. It acts by forming a complex with UPF1 and UPF2 at the cytoplasmic side of the nuclear envelope, where it binds to spliced mRNA upstream of exon-exon junctions. This complex, along with UPF1 bound to release factors at the stalled ribosome, activates NMD, ensuring proper mRNA surveillance and quality control. UPF3 is essential for plant development and adaptation to environmental stresses, including defense against pathogens and response to wounding. It effectively eliminates the production of nonsense-containing RNAs (ncRNAs).
