Function
MRPL44 is a component of the mitochondrial ribosome (mitoribosome), a specialized translational machinery responsible for synthesizing proteins encoded by the mitochondrial genome. These proteins include essential transmembrane subunits of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. The mitoribosomes are anchored to the mitochondrial inner membrane, and newly synthesized proteins are integrated into the membrane during translation.
