Target Background

Function
The Retinoid X Receptor alpha (RXRα) is a nuclear receptor that plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression. It forms heterodimers with other nuclear receptors, such as Retinoic Acid Receptors (RARs), and binds to retinoic acid response elements (RAREs) in DNA. Upon ligand binding, RXRα/RAR heterodimers activate target gene transcription. The primary ligand for RXRα is 9-cis retinoic acid. These heterodimers bind to RAREs composed of tandem 5'-AGGTCA-3' sites known as DR1-DR5. RXRα is involved in various biological processes including cell growth, differentiation, and development.
