Function
The scara5 antibody targets the ferritin receptor, which mediates the non-transferrin-dependent delivery of iron into cells. It facilitates cellular uptake of ferritin-bound iron by stimulating ferritin endocytosis from the cell surface. This process subsequently delivers iron within the cell. The delivery of iron to cells via ferritin is essential for the development of specific cell types, highlighting the existence of cell type-specific mechanisms of iron trafficking during organogenesis. These mechanisms utilize either transferrin or non-transferrin iron delivery pathways.
