Function
GTP-specific succinyl-CoA synthetase plays a crucial role in the citric acid cycle (TCA), catalyzing the hydrolysis of succinyl-CoA and the concomitant synthesis of GTP. This represents the sole step of substrate-level phosphorylation within the TCA cycle. The beta subunit exhibits nucleotide specificity for the enzyme and binds the substrate succinate. Conversely, the binding sites for coenzyme A and phosphate are located within the alpha subunit.
