Function
UNC-7 is a structural component of gap junctions, essential for coordinated locomotion. Its function likely involves regulating neuronal transmission downstream of lin-3 and receptor lin-23, as well as phospholipase plc-3 in ALA neurons. This regulation contributes to the decrease in pharyngeal pumping during the quiescent state preceding each larval molt. Furthermore, UNC-7 plays a crucial role in regulating male mating behavior by positively modulating inhibitory neuronal signaling transduction between chemosensory and mechanosensory neurons. This ensures that spicule insertion attempts are confined to the hermaphrodite vulva during copulation.
