Function
This pseudogene represents the N-terminal fragment of the low-activity DNA endonuclease RpnD, which is likely to generate 3'-hydroxyl ends. The complete protein can be found in this entry (AC B7NGZ6). Expression of the repaired protein enhances the frequency of RecA-independent recombination. However, it also reduces viability, potentially due to DNA damage. In a RecA strain, expression does not affect viability but triggers the SOS repair response. This pseudogene may play a role in horizontal gene transfer.
